Estonia’s permanent representative to IRENA Jaan Reinhold presents his credentials

12 April, Estonia’s Permanent Representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Jaan Reinhold presented his credentials to Director-General of IRENA Francesco La Camera. IRENA aims to advance the broad, increasing and sustainable use of renewable energy across the world.

In the conversation following the presentation ceremony, the permanent representative and the director-general spoke about practical cooperation areas within Estonia’s IRENA membership. Reinhold highlighted the potential of Estonia’s startups in offering new solutions in renewable energy and digital solutions in energy in general, which Estonia is ready to implement in cooperation with other members bilaterally or by collaborating in third countries.

“IRENA’s work in supporting the transition to renewables is praiseworthy. Estonia considers IRENA’s work in bioenergy and wind power particularly important, as they have the greatest potential to enrich Estonia’s energy portfolio with renewable energy. Climate issues increasingly demand attention globally, so Estonia’s deepening cooperation with IRENA is an important step forward,” Permanent Representative Reinhold said.

Jaan Reinhold graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tartu with a degree in history. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has worked at the Department for European Affairs, and as the Director of the Business Diplomacy and Analysis Division of the External Economic and Development Cooperation Department, as well as in the embassies in Vilnius, as Consul General in Shanghai and as ambassador to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Reinhold resides in the United Arab Emirates and is co-accredited as a non-resident ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar. Jaan Reinhold has been Estonia’s permanent representative to IRENA since 2023. Before his appointment to Abu Dhabi in 2019, Reinhold was the Ambassador at Large for Eastern Partnership and the Director of the Estonian Centre of Eastern Partnership.
